Artists in Wonderland

Sun Mar 15, 2009, 2:54 PM
Hey guys, how's everything. I was in an Alice mood so I decided to feature my favorite artists of Wonderland.

First off, everyone knows :iconbri-chan: She created the lovable Alice and Reggie(Hatter) couple based off Disneyland's Alice and Hatter. I merit her for the nonsensical and humorous comics she's done. She's also done nice illustrations of the two. However, I can only credit her for that. She doesn't really do anything more Wonderland-wise than focus on these two. She doesn't dwell more into the rest of Wonderland and its inhabitants. But nevertheless, the humor in this couple brings a smile to my face.

Next is :iconazusachan: She has a wonderful Gothic re-imagining of Wonderland. I really enjoyed her outfit designs. In fact, it was A-chan who inspired me to create my own Wonderland characters. They were originally intended to be goth characters, but as the days passed, it became a more modern day, "slice of life" world.

:iconriotexmachina: goes into the dark side of Wonderland. Her art is psychologically compelling and weird.

:iconlanwu: does very nice character designs. I also enjoyed the atmosphere. She creates a setting that is sometimes Victorian-English and sometimes very dreamlike.

I love the work done by :iconmaryanne42: He is very skilled and creates a dreamy surrealist atmosphere in his drawings.

Just a side note: There are too many adaptions of Alice where the setting is a boring old grassland with spare trees, and the rooms (say the Hall of Doors or someone's house) lack a decorative taste and look awful. I love adaptions were the country actually looks real with a nice arrangement of good-looking trees and plants and perhaps some mountains in the distance and the rooms like nice enough for me to want to live in them, like say, in the 1999 TV adaption starring Tina Majorino. Or I'd like a setting that is both familiar and strange and "cozy" like in Jan Svankmajer's Alice or the Disney adaption and in :iconmaryanne42:'s drawings. Also, the plot in some adaptions are so pale. People don't know how to be original, or they just copy the plot in Disney's version, which is not the best. People don't know how to be joyfully nonsensical and fun like Carroll.

Moo. =P How's your summer going? What did you choose for next year? xP (I know, such boring questions. I'm a boring person, after all.)
all's fine, except last week I got infected by malicious software. I got rid of the infections and pop-ups but I'm still having browser problems. But it's okay for now. As for next year, I chose AP Physics. I was also gonna try and get into this art advancement program in Kingsboro, instead of having College Now, but I haven't had any reply from Ms. Hughes.

Good choice about the AP. ;D

But ooo... I didn't know there was such a program... What do you do if you get in? =D
there's art history, and it would enable me to take the art regents.
